Foundation and Stretching

“Tai shang yi fen zhong, tai xia shi nian gong.” This Chinese proverb translates as “Being on stage for one minute requires ten years of practice off stage.” It describes the effort and training that goes into preparing for performances on stage. Starting from a young age, I began dancing about two times a week. As my passion for dance grew, I began training almost every day of the week, sometimes even dancing twice a day since I practice Ballet, classical Chinese dance, and Contemporary. Although dance practice can be exhausting, especially during summer intensives where students dance up to 10 hours a day, consistent perseverance allows dancers to achieve their goal of performing gracefully and proudly on stage.
